Submission Instructions

Submission of manuscripts to be considered for publication is open to scholars and practitioners from around the world. Final publication of accepted manuscripts is contingent on active membership in the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) by the corresponding (“first”) author of the work. If your membership to NARST has lapsed and your manuscript is accepted for publication, you will need to either renew your membership or pay a fee for each page that will be printed in the journal.

Manuscript submissions must be made online through the ScholarOne / Manuscript Central website at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jrst. First-time authors will need to create an account on the system prior to submitting a manuscript. Online help is available at all steps of the process.   Questions and requests for assistance with the online submission process should be directed to support@scholarone.com.

Manuscripts are submitted by uploading files to ScholarOne/Manuscript Central. The online instructions and support are generally sufficient to guide authors through the process, however we would call your attention to the following specific requirements for JRST.

Initial Submission

1.     The submitting author must fill out an initial Conflict of Interest disclosure form on behalf of all of the authors, which must be submitted along with the manuscript and tagged as a “Main Document” file.   The form is attached at the bottom of this page (http://ejrst.net/sites/default/files/coi_disclosure.doc)

2.     Please order files as follows:

  • Conflict of Interest disclosure form (initial submission only) (designated as Main Document file)
  • Manuscript Text formatted according to APA/JRST requirements (designated as Main Document file)
  • Tables and Figures in the order they are to be placed in the manuscript (designated as Table or Image)
  • Supplementary materials index file (Supplementary_Index.pdf) (designated as Supplementary Material for Review)
  • Supplementary materials in the order they are called out in the manuscript (designated as Supplementary Material for Review)
  • Supplementary datasets or instruments (designated as Supplementary Material for Review)
Please be certain to carefully review the PDF proof generated by the system prior to finalizing your submission. Occasional errors occur which may require you to re-upload one or more files.

Resubmission (after a decision of Revise & Resubmit)

1.     For a resubmission (after a decision of reject with opportunity to resubmit) you must include a separate cover letter file detailing your changes to the manuscript in response to the original review and decision letter. Please note that this should be submitted as a separate manuscript document file, NOT as a “cover letter” in the system.

2.     Please order files as follows:

  • Resubmission Cover Letter detailing manuscript revisions (resubmissions only) (designated as Main Document file)

Submitting Final Manuscript (after an Accept with revisions decision)

1.     You must include a cover letter detailing your manuscript revisions.  This should be submitted in the “cover letter” section on the site, not with the uploaded manuscript files, because if the manuscript is accepted the files will be sent immediately for typesetting/production and we don't want to accidentally print your cover letter.

2.     You must submit a Copyright Transfer Agreement signed (digitally or scanned) by each author and tagged as “supplementary material not for review.”  Copyright transfer agreements are available from Wiley-Blackwell at http://www.wiley.com/go/ctaaus .

3.     Please prepare the manuscript in final form for publication, carefully following APA and JRST publication guidelines.    If you previously submitted a "blinded" paper for review, you must now include a cover page with authors and contact information, restore all previously anonymized author references, and add any appropriate author notes and acknowledgments.   All figures and other materials should be in final copy-ready form.

5.     Please order files as follows:

  •  Manuscript File completed as it is to appear in print (designated as Main Document file)
  • Copyright Transfer Agreement(s) (designated as Supplementary Material Not for Review)
  • Permission to publish copyrighted material from the author or other sources (designated as Supplementary Material Not for Review)
  • Documentation of human subject permissions for photo or video included in supplementary material (designated as Supplementary Material Not for Review)
Please be certain to carefully review the PDF proof generated by the system prior to finalizing your submission. Occasional errors occur which may require you to re-upload one or more files.
